Taylor Edgar
MSW Intern
Taylor Edgar is interning at Whole Wellness Counseling in Binghamton, NY, while finishing her last year of the MSW program at Binghamton University. Taylor will graduate with her master’s degree and a certificate in Nonprofit Management in May of 2025. Taylor graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2023.
During her undergraduate career, Taylor additionally minored in art therapy, studio art, and communication sciences and disorders. She hopes to one day have her own practice in which she can incorporate art into her services. As a research apprentice in the psychology department at SUNY Plattsburgh, Taylor worked alongside psychology faculty to conduct extensive research on emotion regulation skills in early childhood and how they relate to academic success and overall mental well-being in early adulthood. Though Taylor has always known her passion was in the field of mental health, she believes that her journey as a social worker began with her involvement in Shine On!, a college-student-driven nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering resilience and confidence in Northern New York youth. Over her three years of involvement in the organization, Taylor’s responsibility and investment in the program brought her to hold the position of Committee Chair. Though Taylor has graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh, she is still actively involved in Shine On!. She was recently hired to create new evidence-based social emotional learning curricula for Shine On!’s Education Outreach Program that will be delivered to public elementary schools in Clinton County for the 2024-2025 academic year.
Taylor’s goal is to help those around her recognize their innate resilience and ability to surmount obstacles. She puts great value on her relationships with others and looks forward to all of the important lessons she will learn along the way from both her supervisors and clients at Whole Wellness.
When Taylor is not spending time with family and friends, she loves gardening, creating pottery, reading a good book, and enjoying the outdoors!
